on Honeybees. Honey is "manufactured" in one of the world's most efficient factories, the beehive. The beehive population is made up of three types of individuals, which each has its own duties and functions. The population of the beehive consists of one queen, several hundred drones (which are males) and thousands of workers (which are females).. Worker bees travel as far as 55,000 miles and one single bee usually visit between 50 - 1000 flowers a day, but can visit up to several thousand, to gather enough nectar to make just a pound of honey. Today, honeybees are an essential part of a healthy agriculture economy. Approximately 1/3 of the human diet is derived directly or indirectly from crops pollinated by bees. Hidden Springs Honey is a family owned business. We began this business as a hobby in 2000. We took on beekeeping to add some diversification to the cattle farm, along with providing pollination for the local garden farmers. We started out with 4 hives and today we have 20, and are planning on increasing up to 50 hives in the next couple of years.
